This year we will get to see Ernie Dorrill from Canton Mississippi, and Mark Aspery from Springville California / Colorado / Wales UK., who needs no more introductions.
Ernie is an amazing blacksmith and repoussé artist, and friend of Clay Spencer. Ernie will give us a special extended Demo.
From our group Big Paul DiFrancesco will regale us with his high energy banter with an undisclosed demonstration.
Other RMS demonstrator will be Ira Sherman, a metalsmith artist with an incredible sense of design. Mark Petry is unable to demonstrate.
We will have a 2 hour group forging session (we hope to complete a fireplace set with a rack), gallery, open forge, Iron-in-the-Hat and Silent Auction.
Updated conference schedule: Click here.
Ira will give a slide show of his works and demonstrate fold forming. Information about Ira Sherman:
Ira Sherman's work has received national and international acclaim. Honored as overall winner of the Kinetic Art Organization International 2004 competition, his art objects appear in many public and private institutional collections including the Smithsonian Renwick Gallery, The National Ornamental Metal Museum the Spertus Museum and Denver's Regional Transportation district's public art collection. Ira's exhibitions, lectures and workshops have been enthusiastically received throughout the United States, Europe and Japan.
"I am passionate about creating kinetic objects in all metals. My extensive background in metalsmithing, architectural metal design, and jewelry design make all my sculpture "Jewel-like" both in the application of extremely fine craftsmanship and careful thought out site-specfic design. I love the strength, integrity, durability, and mechanical opportunities inherent in metal. "
Sherman has been elected a distinguished member of the Society of North American Goldsmiths and is a Past Chairman and a founding board member of the Colorado Metalsmithing Association.
